IDENTITY Art Journal - Recreated!

Here, above, is spread two of the IDENTITY art journal. The flap is closed. When opened, as shown below, the left portion illustrates Jesus' sacrifice, life before the cross and life after, being recreated to be more like Jesus. The rest of the page is about that.

I listen to the podcasts by Rob Davey from Jubilee Church Solihull that Bernice Hopper has based the Identity Journal Study on. They are insightful and inspirational,  a pleasure to listen to and flow with as I journal.

Cross Detail

I often need a perspective adjustment. What if I really understood what God says about me, about others? I feel like I'm just beginning to awaken to what that might mean:

"Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we're a free people - free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth."  -
Ephesians 1:7-10 The Message
What an amazing thing that God loves us so much, He included us in His plans and delights in giving us abundant freedom!

  1. Hello Valerie. I'm loving every part of your journal, especially the way you made the cross. Is the cross made completely from a hymn or a copy of a hymn? Either way, what a great idea. Linda E.

    1. There are torn strips of the hymn incorporated along with other torn pieces of paper

  2. This is absolutely beautiful Valerie and so much of it is thought-provoking. God's perspective is what we need but sometimes so many things get in the way of us seeing it. My heart is that the World's leaders would have God's perspective for social justice and change their policies to support those in poverty and under oppression. Thank you for sharing x

  3. Valerie - What caught my attention - even with all the other beautiful work and lettering on this spread - was the cross. I love collage and that cross sent my thoughts right to what God has done for us in Jesus. Beautiful work

  4. My perspective on God: Beautiful Savior, Worthy, Everlasting God, King of King, our Bridegroom and Friend, Lover of my soul, the Righteous One, Just, Merciful, Love unending, , Creator, He is the one I love - there is no other above Jesus, by His name we are saved- He is gracious, Kind, full of Love, Just, Good, Faithful. There are not enough words to express how I feel about my God . Looking at your art evokes these feelings in me. God is using your art to bless others and to express in great beauty who He is.

    1. Dawn, I share your perspective on God. Thank you for your confirming and affirming words. Many creative blessings to you! - Valerie

  5. Awesome! I am a new be in art journal, and I want to use my art to show how great God is also, I just haven't found the key yet. But I am learning!

  6. Oh Valerie, the Cross just takes my breath away, I feel a lot of emotion in it. The layers are such a great way to depict this meaningful Christian symbol. By the way I am enjoying your online workshops so far - you have done an amazing job with the organization of it and it is so user friendly, Congrats!!
